October 29, 2026
The roundabout at Linder Road and Floating Feather Road has reached the concrete stage on ACHD's schedule. In its October 22 update, the Ada County Highway District reported that underground power at the new roundabout was complete, the subgrade was being finished, and curb was going in around the circle. The first concrete placement was scheduled for October 21 and a second was anticipated for October 23, with ACHD noting that the work depended on the weather.
That corner has been closed to through traffic since May 18. For Legacy, it matters more than most intersections in Eagle. The developer describes the 590-acre community as "nestled perfectly between Linder Road and Highway 16 along Floating Feather Road." Linder is the eastern side of that description, and the roundabout sits right on it.
As the Linder side wraps up, the Highway 16 side is getting busier. Work on Legacy's western edge runs on a 2027 schedule, so the end of one closure is not the end of construction around the neighborhood.
ACHD's project covers Linder Road from State Highway 44 north to Floating Feather. It has been more than a roundabout job. The October 22 update describes four work zones at different stages:
ACHD still hasn't published a reopening day. The district's May 14 traffic advisory said the intersection "is expected to remain closed through late 2026," and the October updates describe the work as weather-dependent. Heading into November, that wording means the opening date will be set by the work on site.
The new layout is not just a single-lane circle. According to ACHD's project description, the west and south approaches will each have two lanes going into the roundabout. The left lane is for through traffic and left turns, and the right lane is for right turns only. The west approach is Floating Feather coming in from the Legacy side, so drivers heading toward Linder from the neighborhood will need to pick their lane before they reach the circle.
The rest of the design, as ACHD describes it:
South of the roundabout, Linder is being widened to two lanes in each direction with a center turn lane. The plan also adds landscaped medians where appropriate, curb and gutter, a multi-use pathway on both sides, roadway lighting, bioretention swales, and two rebuilt bridges. Once that is done, walking or riding a bike from Legacy south toward State Highway 44 will be possible on a continuous path along both sides of Linder. Before this project, that stretch had no such path.
One Linder crossing has drawn neighbor attention this fall. Some residents asked ACHD for a full traffic signal at Linder and Saguaro Drive. ACHD answered in a letter to neighbors dated October 16, which it posted to the project page on October 19. Its decision:
"ACHD's position is to retain the pedestrian hybrid beacon rather than replace it with a full traffic signal. A full signal would add unnecessary traffic delay throughout the day, while the pedestrian hybrid beacon provides the stop-controlled crossing conditions needed for pedestrians."
In the same ACHD letter, the district explained how the beacon works. When someone presses it, Linder traffic gets a steady red and has to stop for people crossing. When no one is crossing, traffic keeps moving. ACHD also said it will add an indicator so drivers coming out of Saguaro Drive can tell when the beacon is on, and that it will reevaluate if traffic or pedestrian activity changes materially. Neighbors who want to weigh in can use ACHD Connect at achdidaho.org/connect or call (208) 387-6100.
The project schedules diverge here. While crews finish Linder, the Idaho Transportation Department is starting work on the highways west and south of Legacy.
The closest one is the SH-44 widening from SH-16 to Star Road. ITD is widening State Highway 44 to five lanes, with two travel lanes each way and a center turn lane, a new road surface, connected pedestrian pathways on the south side, and relocated utilities. ITD's timeline shows utility and paving work starting in fall 2026 as weather permits, widening and paving continuing in spring 2027, and completion in fall/winter 2027. ITD's project page lists what drivers should expect:
For Legacy, that is the stretch you drive heading west toward Star. ITD held its first drop-in meeting for the project on October 22 at Liberty Hall in Star and says more will follow in 2027. Liberty Hall only opened this fall, as covered in our post on how Star residents are getting inside the new building.
Farther south, the new SH-16 corridor from I-84 to SH-44 was 60% complete as of ITD's October 15 newsletter and is expected to open in mid-2027. The same newsletter says neither drivers nor pedestrians may use the unfinished highway in the meantime. ITD says the SH-44 widening will open at the same time as the SH-16 and SH-44 interchange.
One project on Legacy's western edge will not affect anyone this winter. The SH-16 widening from SH-44 north to Beacon Light is still in planning and design, and ITD anticipates a public meeting in 2027.
| Project | Where it touches Legacy | Status heading into November 2026 | Next stated milestone |
|---|---|---|---|
| Linder Road, SH-44 to Floating Feather, with roundabout | East edge, at the Floating Feather intersection | Roundabout concrete scheduled for late October; sidewalk, wall and road base work ongoing | Intersection closure "through late 2026" |
| SH-44 widening, SH-16 to Star Road | West and south, toward Star | Utility and paving work starting fall 2026 | Completion fall/winter 2027 |
| SH-16, I-84 to SH-44 | South, toward I-84 | 60% complete as of October 15 | Opening mid-2027 |
| SH-16 widening, SH-44 to Beacon Light | West edge along Highway 16 | Planning and design | Public meeting anticipated in 2027 |
All of these dates are seasons, not specific days, and every agency ties its schedule to the weather. In order, the reopening at Linder comes first, the SH-44 work toward Star starts around the same time, and the two ITD highway projects follow in 2027, with SH-16 expected in mid-2027 and the SH-44 widening in fall/winter 2027.
Until ACHD announces the switch date, the detours from its May advisory still apply. Use Palmer Lane or Park Lane for north-south trips, and Beacon Light Road or State Highway 44 for east-west trips. Anyone headed to the restaurants that opened along Floating Feather this summer, covered in what's new down Floating Feather from Legacy, still has to drive around the closed intersection for now.
The fastest way to hear about the reopening is ACHD's Linder Road project page, which posts updates and has a sign-up for project notices. For the SH-44 work toward Star, ITD takes email at [email protected], sends updates if you text 44WIDENING to 1-866-483-8422, and answers calls at 208-261-2443. Both are worth signing up for this winter, since the next big change could come from either agency.
